Description
Located in the Mojave Desert at the junction of Interstate 15 and SR 127 (Death Valley Road), the small town of Baker was little more than a stop for food and gas by travelers between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, or folks just wanting to see the world’s tallest thermometer. For those too weary to continue on, Arneâs Royal Hawaiian Motel had them covered with air-conditioned rooms, color TV, and a Polynesian theme. Arneâs opened in 1957 and had a pretty good run, giving motorists a place to rest their heads for a little over 50 years, but sadly closed down in 2009 and has sat abandoned ever since.
