Description
From 1952 until 1994, Bitburg Air Base was a front-line NATO air base. It was the home of the United States Air Force’s 36th Tactical Fighter Wing for over 40 years as part of the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). Redesignated 36th Fighter-Bomber Wing on 20 January 1950 Redesignated 36th Fighter-Day Wing on 9 August 1954 Redesignated 36th Tactical Fighter Wing on 8 July 1958
